Cheerleading Competition - Please come out and support our WMMS Cheerleaders. The Wake County Cheerleading Competition is Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Southeast Raleigh High School (2600 Rock Quarry Road). The competition starts at 10:00 am. Our cheerleaders have been working hard and the more support and cheering we have from fans at the competition, the better our scores will be. We look forward to seeing you there!!

Teacher of the Year - Please join us in congratulating Mr. Derek Currie, 8th Grade Math and Algebra teacher. He was recently chosen the WMMS Teacher of the Year by WMMS faculty. Mr. Currie came to West Millbrook through the Visiting International Faculty program in 2005 and has challenged 8th grade students to do their best and reach their potential on both the Sharks and Eagles teams since then. Former students say that he is a great teacher who demands much and cares equally as much. Our faculty and staff agrees! To learn more about Mr. Currie's background, click here.

H1N1 and Seasonal Flu: Information for parents, students and staff - WCPSS works closely with Wake County Human Services on any cases of communicable diseases or viruses. These agencies are carefully monitoring the situation and will keep parents and the public updated.

Taking simple steps to protect your health are very important. As with any virus, cold or other illness, students and staff with cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, fever or feverishness, tiredness, body aches, headache, chills, diarrhea and vomiting should stay home from school/work until they have recovered.

  • The CDC recommends that people with influenza-like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8°C]), or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) H1N1 (Swine Flu) Web site, http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu, is updated frequently and is the best source for general information.
  • Information can also be found by contacting the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
