A Note from the 2010-11 PTA President, Dawn Clark
Welcome to "ALL" to another successful, pride-filled, and exciting year at West Millbrook Middle School. My name is Dawn Clark and I feel proud to be your PTA President for our 2010/2011 school year. Along with all of you, a committed PTA Executive Board, an amazingly dedicated Staff, and over 35 committees chaired by equally enthusiastic parents, we are sure to have our best year yet at WMMS.
Our goal is no different than the one of any parent. We are committed to advocating, supporting, and working to ensure the very best for our children. We consider our children to be " ALL" the students who come through the doors of WMMS. We wish for all of the children at WMMS to reach his/her full potential. Together we can make this a reality.
The PTA stands for Parent/Teacher/Association. This means that you are the PTA! Being a member is a given by virtue of you being a parent/guardian/caregiver of a student at WMMS. That means that "YOU" are a member of the PTA. In addition, like Master Card, membership has it's privileges.
Your involvement in the PTA is so valuable because:
.• PTA is the number one voice for parent involvement.• Children succeed when families, schools, and communities work together. PTA helps develop those relationships through resources, programs, and advocacy.
• You're not alone. PTA is a network of trained and passionate volunteers just like you, ready to assist when you need help.
• You are part of a powerful voice for all children, working with like-minded people around the country and the world to improve the education and well-being of our youth.
• You are supported by real people will connect you to information about children and education you can use today.
• PTA makes a big difference by influencing the decisions of legislators and leaders of other organizations-and PTA works with parents locally to ensure proper funding, leadership, and instruction for all schools and school districts.
• You can be a role model to your children and community!
We sincerely look forward to meeting you at our PTA Meetings and running into you around the WMMS campus!

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities abound! The following
committees are on the lookout for volunteers: Athletic
Booster Club, Book Fair, Career Day, Chaperones,
Eighth Grade Dance, End of Grade Test Proctors, Fundraising, Hospitality,
Media Volunteers,
Membership, Newsletter, and School Pictures.
A PTA volunteer form will be posted in this space shortly. In the interim, please drop by the school office and complete the WCPSS volunteer information form that is only available via the WCPSS inTRAnet.
Communications
The PTA will continue to send the bright yellow “Wildcat
News” home each Monday, full of up-to-date calendar information,
volunteer needs, messages from the WMMS administration, and articles
about what’s happening at West.
Spiritwear
The PTA offers West Millbrook spirtwear for purchase by our WMMS families. Print the form (click here), complete it and return to school with payment.
SHOW YOUR CHILDREN YOU CARE ABOUT EDUCATION! JOIN THE WMMS PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA)!
Study after study has shown that when parents are involved in their children's school, their children get better grades and have fewer behavior problems. Joining the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is an easy way to get involved at West Millbrook.
COMMUNICATION: At the monthly PTA meetings, you can talk with WMMS teachers and administrators, hear what's going on at school, and give your input.
VOLUNTEERS: No matter if you work fulltime, have small children at home, or prefer to work alone .... there's a volunteer job for any circumstance! Through the PTA, you can hear about many ways to help make West Millbrook a great place for your child's education.
PLEASE JOIN! Just complete the PTA form at this link (PDF file) and return it in an envelope with your membership dues in cash, or checks made payable to "WMMS PTA" by mail: WMMS PTA Membership; 8115 Strickland Road; Raleigh, NC 27615; OR send it with your student to his/her homeroom teacher.
Please note: Each school’s PTA is a separate organization, so your PTA membership at another school DOES NOT support West Millbrook. PTA Memberships lasts for one year. Only $3.50 of your PTA membership dues is sent to State & National PTA; the rest stays at West Millbrook!
