Introduction

The Vietnam War was a tragic time in American history. This activity will help you understand two conflicting viewpoints about American involvement in the war. The friction between the Hawks and the Doves developed into a national tragedy that almost tore our country apart in the 1960's and 1970's.

1. Definitions:
Using "What were the Positions of the Hawks and the Doves?", define the position of both groups in your own words.

4.  Editorial Cartoons
Look at the Editorial Cartoons about the Vietnam War. Choose 3 cartoons to interpret.  Be certain to explain your findings in complete sentences.



5. Essay:
If you had lived during the Vietnam era would you have been a Hawk or a Dove? Explain your decision.
