North Carolina is one of the most wonderful
places on earth. The people are friendly. There are beautiful places
to see, and interesting things to see and do in every county of the
state.
We have diverse cultures in North Carolina. Throughout the state, many people
make their living off the land, farming the rich soil and/or raising livestock.
Many families on the coast have a culture rich with tales of the sea, while
many families in the mountains share stories of cold, harsh winters and
beautiful mild summers. Artisans abound throughout the state, though the
state may be best known for the furniture, pottery, hand-crafted quilts,
and folk-art.
Your assignment throughout
this year will be to investigate great places to visit within our
state with your team of four. Together, our class will
develop a database to share with interested visitors. As we study the
Coastal Plain, you will research and add locations in the Coastal
Plain to our
database. As we study the Piedmont, you will add data of places to
visit in the Piedmont, and finally as we study the Mountain Region,
you will
finish your database by adding special places in the mountains.
Research and record the following information
for each location your team adds to the database:
- Name of place to visit
- Geographic region
- Street address
- City
- Zip Code
- Phone number to call for hours of operation,
pricing info, etc.
- E-mail contact if available
- County
- Miles from Raleigh
- Average January temperature
- Average July temperature
- Average elevation of county
- 2002 population of county
- Reasons you should visit
For ideas of great places to visit, go to: http://www.itpi.dpi.state.nc.us/nchistorical/default.html
Though you may use Google to locate
web-sites for the specific places you wish to list, you will need the
following web-site to locate
information concerning the average temperatures, elevation of county,
county population, etc.: http://cmedis.commerce.state.nc.us/countyprofiles/
(Note that you must know the county in which your place to visit is located
in order to use the county profile site above.)
